Why do I have to name my colors, gradients, shadows and images in the Library?

You don't. PaintCode automatically generates default names for these library items for your. However, it is best to name your library items sensibly for two reasons: it makes it easier for you to manage and edit your document, and it also makes the generated code more easy to understand.
